Madison chose to have her bridal portraits taken at Winston-Salem’s historic Brookstown Inn near Old Salem, also the site of hers and Shannon’s wedding reception. She was stunning surrounded by the ambiance of the Inn’s old-world architecture.

Emily’s bridal portrait session was so much fun! She’s such a lovely woman. We met up with Emily at The Peakcock Inn in Newton near Charlotte, where the inn offered an elegant setting. We chose the inn for our bridal portrait session because of its beauty but also because of Emily and her fiance Ian’s plans to hold their reception there following their marriage ceremony.

We could almost imagine Emily being in a Spanish hacienda when we focused on these warm, earth-toned tiles in the banquet hall.

The inn is filled with peacocks, including this glass art piece. On the grounds of the farm, live peacocks roam, in the company of goats and horses.

Emily is so at ease, with quiet grace.

The painting over the fireplace in the farmhouse’s front room portrays the house itself, the core of which dates to the 1800s.

This is one of our favorite portraits!

Compared to the elegant setting in the house, the 35 acres of farmland and buildings offered a rustic contrast.

Whitney is such a fun girl, especially in her cowboy boots! She joined us at our Cornelius photography studio for a terrific shoot!

Whitney is truly a classic beauty.

We love the way her beautiful dress looks, with its intricate beading and lace.

One final shot of those cool boots!

We thought an elegant, historic location would be beautiful for Ellen’s engagement portrait session. What better place than Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C., where both her parents have worked for many years. These first lovely images were in McBryde Hall, built in 1909. Built in the eclectic style of a medieval hall, McBryde for years was the primary dining place for Winthrop students. For us, it made a perfect space for portraits of this beautiful bride.

The hall’s spacious Tudor design accentuates the high hammer-beamed ceilings supported by an elaborate timber system. We loved the soaring spaces, huge windows and gorgeous wood and flooring.

Ellen is so elegant and at ease. It was fun to work with her, and to visit with her mom, who came along to help!

As we took photographs of Ellen at the grand staircase in Tillman Hall, university staff and faculty who work with her mom and dad gave her hugs and greetings. She’s been coming on campus since she was a little girl, and clearly she and her family members are loved. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, Tillman Hall is an example of Romanesque architecture.

The covered walkway to the Roddey Apartments offered lovely columns as a backdrop. Roddey was the first Winthrop facility built in the Neo-Georgian style, setting an architectural trend in campus buildings that would last for more than 45 years.
The Bridal Blast! at the Cabarrus Arena was loads of fun. We met so many wonderful brides, grooms, friends and family members. We decided to go with a uncluttered look for our booth, with comfy stools and tables to allow guests to look at our albums in comfort. Our large banners showed some of our favorite photos of a few of our brides and grooms.

We also had fun connecting with other wedding professionals, and we wanted to mention a few.
Art and Arica of ShutterBooth Charlotte had their booth on-site, as brides and grooms entered, so they could experience the fun! The food, of course, was one of the best things. To mention a few (from whom we had to have samples!): Sunflour Baking Company, Heaven Sent Catering, Custom Cakes by Joli, and Whimsical Creations, with her custom stationary and candy buffets, a popular option for many couples. Sweetest Beginnings was another popular invitations booth.

We were so fortunate to be next door to the ladies from Inbloom Events. They offer wedding and event planning and are a delight. We also enjoyed seeing Blissful Planners, Inc. It was fun also to reconnect with Frank Lambert, of Lambert’s DJ and flutist Emily Higgins. DJ Curtis Treece was our corner neighbor, and he kept us supplied with tunes, from his Sunset Celebrations collection. The ladies from The Lily Rose of Cornelius, a couture boutique, who also are our physical neighbors near our studio on Catawba Avenue in Cornelius, were across the way from us.
Two people we discovered at the show are Laura Dowey, owner of Miss Behavin’, Your Best Home Party Yet, and Lorelei Smith, Romance Consultant — Just love that job title! — with Temptations Parties by Lorelei. We immediately thought of our I Feel Pretty boudoir line, and hope to work with them and some of our brides in the future!
