I had a great fashion session with Lincoln County student Alyssa recently. She is a straight-A student and as sweet as she is smart.

Emily is a fun, charming young woman who was a joy to photograph. She was either smiling or singing during much of the shoot keeping it fun for all of us. I love these portrait sessions! See the complete gallery here.

‘Kenzie and Katelyn are Charlotte area sisters who asked us to do their senior portraits together, but with a different “look” for each of them. They’re both beautiful young ladies, and they have distinct personalities and styles.

Katelyn shows her natural grace and lovely beauty; both girls embraced the photo session as if they had been doing this all their lives.

The girls’ sister Kristen joined us for the shoot and tucked the flower into ‘Kenzie’s hair for a contemporary look. Kristen should know; she’s an expert stylist and owner of sbk hair studio.

We met up in Mint Hill at a local park to take advantage of the natural green areas and the more informal look of the outdoor spaces. We love shooting outside, in addition to in our studio, to use the natural light.

We love how the blue in this cute outfit brings out the blue in ‘Kenzie’s gorgeous eyes.

We also found the old buildings at Carl J. McEwen Historic Village to be an interesting place to shoot as well. According to the Mint Hill Historical Society, the Mint Hill Country Doctor’s Museum was the first restoration project in the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village. Later the Ira V. Ferguson Country Store moved on site, then the Ashcraft Schoolhouse, meat curing building, and additional outbuildings, all coming together to create a glimpse of life, 100 years ago.
We enjoyed our time with Katelyn, ‘Kenzie (and big sis Kristen) very much, and wanted to share a few of our favorite shots from this fun day.
Here’s a sneak peek at two delightful sisters who have just started their senior year. More of their images are coming soon!

Julia truly is a joy! She has a terrific personality and was great fun to work with. She was interested in studio and location sessions, and had brought changes of clothing to reflect her interests and personal style. We’ve known Julia for quite some time, and we’ve enjoyed seeing her grow into such a lovely, capable and intelligent young woman.

Hunter is a standout baseball player who demonstrated in his senior portrait session why he’s such a star. He was disciplined, focused and fully engaged in the process. And check out those blue eyes! We enjoyed meeting Hunter and taking his photographs.

We had a wonderful time with Lyndsay recently taking her senior portraits. We spent time in our Charlotte-area studio near Lake Norman, as well as taking photographs around Cornelius. Despite the drizzle, we had such fun photographing her!
Senior portraits are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to capture students’ spirit and style. For many young people, the senior session is the first opportunity for a creative photographic experience. We offer these tips to teens to help make a senior portrait session successful.
Make sure you look your best. Be rested, with clean or manicured nails and hair in a style that’s familiar and comfortable. Overly tanned faces can look heavy in photographs, and for girls, we recommend lightly-applied makeup. You may wish to bring makeup for touch-ups. Guys, you’ll want to shave or trim your facial hair.
Consider your clothing. Logos and lettering can draw attention away from you, as can excessive jewelry. Bring changes of clothes of different colors and styles. Consider something dressier and something more casual, with limited patterns to reduce “clutter” and to keep the focus on you.
Show your individualism. Consider various aspects of your personality and interests, and share those with us. We can work with you on location settings, clothing changes and items that mean something special to you. Let us know if you’ve seen other photos that appeal to you, and tell us what you like about them. We love it when students bring us their ideas for the best senior portraits. That really adds to the creative, interactive process we like to follow!
